Better indoor air quality is something everyone can aspire to, and a viable option as demonstrated by the VISION House Las Vegas.

Healthy living is a high priority for homebuyers today, including the desire to breathe cleaner air inside their homes. New products and systems that work together make it even easier for today’s homeowners to achieve better indoor air quality that contributes to reduced health issues related to pollutants.

“We see homeowners today choosing new homes over resales 30% of the time,” says Bill Gilbert, national sales manager for the Builder Channel for Sherwin-Williams. “New homes offer flexible floor plans with higher energy efficiencies and provide better overall air quality compared to homes built just ten years ago.”

Pure Color In Action

Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint with Air Purifying Technology is one of the products demonstrated at the VISION House Las Vegas, a partnership between Beazer Homes and Green Builder Media that includes two model homes at the master planned community of Cadence in Henderson just outside of Las Vegas.

In addition, the VISION House Las Vegas project includes a deconstructed model for a behind-the-walls detailed look at how all the products and systems in the houses work together for healthier, more sustainable living. These homes and all future Beazer homes will meet the Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home requirements.

“New home buyers are very aware of features such as low-e windows and Energy Star appliances,” Gilbert says. “They understand that homes built to today's standards will last longer and provide lower maintenance costs over the next 20 years.”

Buyers are asking our builders for an interior wall paint upgrade option, Gilbert says.

“They understand that premium products provide additional performance and durability, which will delay their need to repaint,” he says. “That saves them money in the long term.”

Paint and Indoor Air Quality

While the VISION House Las Vegas includes an ERV (energy recovery ventilator) that exchanges indoor and outdoor air while reducing heating and cooling needs, products such as Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint with Air Purifying Technology provide technology to avoid adding VOCs (volatile organic compounds) to a home.

“The VISION House helps educate homeowners about Sherwin-Williams products like SuperPaint with Air Purifying Technology, which is a cost effective option that contributes to better indoor air quality by reducing VOCs from potential sources like carpet, cabinets and fabric,” Gilbert says. “It helps break down unwanted odors from cooking and pets and is available in a wide range of colors to meet anyone's design style.”

SuperPaint with Air Purifying Technology includes odor-reducing compounds that deconstruct carbon molecules that come into contact with a painted surface, which neutralizes and dissipates odors from cooking, smoke or pets. The Air Purifying Technology helps transform airborne formaldehyde into water molecules and harmless inert gas when it comes in contact with the paint film. This reduces VOCs from a variety of potential sources. In addition, Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint with Air Purifying Technology includes anti-microbial agents that inhibit the growth of mold and mildew on the paint film and related bacterial odors.

Simply choosing paint with the latest technology can make a difference to indoor air quality, which contributes to the healthier lifestyle today’s buyers crave.

Note: The length of time SuperPaint with Air Purifying Technology Interior Acrylic Latex actively reduces odors and formaldehyde depends on the concentration, the frequency of exposure and the amount of painted surface area.
