Fully electric house to meet Zero Energy Ready Home requirements.

Beazer Homes’ commitment to build every single home from this point forward to meet the Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home requirements represents a significant step for sustainability. Numerous companies dedicated to decarbonization in the building industry, including Whirlpool Corporation, support the mission of the VISION House Las Vegas: Crossing the Rubicon project, a partnership by Beazer Homes and Green Builder Media.

The VISION House Las Vegas includes two model homes at the master planned community of Cadence in Henderson just outside of Las Vegas: the Everett, a baseline model, and the Willow, an upgraded home. In addition, the Zion, a deconstructed model, will be onsite for builders, contractors and buyers to see what’s behind the walls in Beazer’s READY homes.

For Whirlpool, commitment to improving their products and their manufacturing practices is an important component of their overall mission of improving life at home. That mission encompasses a broader definition of home to include the building itself, the community that surrounds each home and the planet that sustains everyone.

In 1969, former Whirlpool CEO Elisha Gray II wrote in a letter addressed to shareholders, “We cannot separate our business from the communities in which we operate and hope to grow and prosper.”

That statement led to the establishment of Whirlpool’s Office of Environment in 1970.

Corporate Responsibility

Whirlpool’s commitment to sustainability includes continuous innovation and improvements in their manufacturing practices while offering products at competitive prices.

In 2023, Whirlpool completed more than 650 energy projects that reduce carbon emissions, delivering their largest year-over-year greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction to date: an approximately 25% reduction in total GHGs (scopes 1 and 2 market-based) when compared to 2022. This is the company’s second year in a row with more than 25% reduction rates.

In addition, over the past year Whirlpool:

  • Signed two virtual power purchase agreements, which, when fully operational, are expected to cover 100% of the electricity consumed by their U.S. sites.
  • Achieved zero waste to landfill (ZWtL) Gold level at two new manufacturing sites and maintained ZWtL Gold or Platinum Level at all other global manufacturing sites.
  • Donated $144 million and over 242,000 products to Habitat for Humanity and completed 143 climate-resilient and energy-efficient builds with Habitat’s BuildBetter initiative.

Whirlpool also joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Green Power Partnership by declaring their voluntary investment in green power to protect human health and the environment. Whirlpool is among the EPA’s Top Fortune 500 participants committed to finding more sustainable ways to power their operations.

Electric Appliances for the VISION House Las Vegas

Whirlpool’s Design for Sustainability program focuses on designing products with the needs of consumers and the planet in mind. The company expects to reduce their reliance on nonrenewable resources, lower their carbon and water footprint, and maintain their standards of excellence for quality and performance through the program.

At the VISION House Las Vegas, both the Everett and the Willow models will include electric appliances from Whirlpool. The Everett model will include an electric range, a microwave and hood, and an Energy Star compliant dishwasher. The Willow model will feature an induction cooktop and a heat pump dryer.

“We’re taking a long-term view and making the changes we need in our operations and supply chain for our production to be more sustainable—without shortcuts or excuses,” says Jeremy Jones, senior associate brand manager with Whirlpool Corporation. “We know our ability to operate in the future depends on continuing our commitment to make products with purposeful innovation and without leaving a negative footprint, helping us to protect the planet, our employees and the communities in which we operate.”
