The concept of appliances that learn your behavior, take on your domestic tasks or can be accessed or managed by your smart phone seemed like a fantasy decades ago, but innovations have brought these ideas to fruition delivering enhanced convenience to consumers.

“Our innovations throughout our line of appliances have brought beneficial technologies directly to the consumer to make life better and more convenient,” says Sean Hodge, Director of Southeast Sales, for the LG Pro Builder division of LG Electronics USA. “By providing connected products throughout the home, we see homeowners find efficiencies in their daily tasks from advanced culinary features to the longevity of their appliances with preventive maintenance alerts.”

LG Pro Builder brings the company's comprehensive portfolio of home appliances and smart life solutions to the forefront of home construction projects. LG Pro Builder serves the needs of single-family home developments, multimillion-dollar luxury homes, multi-family projects, and more across its three distinct brand portfolios – LG, LG STUDIO and SKS – delivering award-winning reliability, design and technology at every price point.

Better Cooking with a Little Help from LG

Known to homebuilders and homeowners alike for reliability, efficiency and innovation, LG’s tech-forward solutions are featured throughout from induction cooking, sous vide or steam assistance.

“We offer a feature called ‘Auto Cook’ that tells you the best method to prepare certain dishes that are preloaded in the wall ovens,” Hodge says. “Select what you want to make, choose your desired doneness and it walks you through the process and takes over the controls so it’s perfect every time. For example, you can press a button that says beef tenderloin and it asks you how you want to cook it. It even gives you a photo of what it will look like if you pick medium rare.

Auto Cook then provides instructions such as whether to use steam or an air fryer to cook the meat, along with which rack to use and where to put the meat probe.

“You actually get to act like you’re a real chef,” Hodge says. “It’s like saying, ‘I’m not a real chef, I just play one on TV,’ but the meal is as good as if a true chef prepared it with all the help you get from the appliance. Think of your appliance as the sous chef.”

Artificial Intelligence (AI), also known as Affectionate Intelligence at LG, is integrated into LG appliances, including the luxury SKS brand.

“Select SKS ovens are equipped with a built-in HD camera that allows users to monitor and share their cooking in real-time and even create time-lapse videos for an interactive cooking experience. The camera and sensor inside quickly identify the food – for example, a pan of asparagus, and it can ask if you want to cook it now and send you some recipes,” Hodge says. “That brings in a new level of functionality in that you don’t need to do anything – not even search for a recipe.”

This technology is available on the SKS 30-inch Transitional Series Combi Wall Oven that was one of Time magazine’s Best Inventions of 2024 that changed how people lived, cited because of its knob-free, single touchscreen user interface and multiple functions that use microwave, convection, thermal, halogen and steam alongside their Gourmet AI.

“While you will see the built-in HD camera in our luxury brand SKS, we also bring functionality in technology in our other premium brands as well,” Hodge says.

Induction cooktops, available in various configurations to meet homeowner demand, are gaining popularity with more customers, Hodge says, particularly among home chefs who appreciate the precision cooking induction provides. Homeowners are leaning towards induction cooking for a new way to make their favorite dishes with instant heat reactions across the cooking surface.

“The industry has slowly evolved to include induction and evolved more rapidly in recent years to include induction in new construction and remodel projects whether through regulation, energy efficiencies or homeowner preference,” Hodge says. “Now, the rest of the industry has caught up to it to where almost all pots and pans are now induction capable, and consumers don’t have to buy more expensive specialized ones.”

“Induction cooking offers homeowners exceptional power, precision and responsiveness for fast and efficient cooking,” Hodge says. “Many people stray away from cooking because they may find it cumbersome or time consuming, and we provide them with the benefits of ease of use and a connected experience with award-winning technologies in our appliances.”

“Steam cooking is a good mechanism for healthier living. It also offers the benefit of not transferring flavors, so you could cook your whole meal in steam at the same time.”

Efficient Innovations Outside the Kitchen

Consumers can also benefit from improvements in other appliance categories such as laundry that help conserve energy and water while offering simpler operations. LG’s dryers, for example, have a sensor that automatically determines how long the dryer needs to operate.

“LG is giving builders the flexibility of putting laundry in tailored spaces at the need of the homeowner such as the primary closet, in a mud room and more to fit their lifestyle with just the requirement of electrical and water source,” Hodge says. “For instance, we have a heat pump dryer which is among the better methods to dry your clothes because it reduces the amount of heat you need, plus it has a ventless design for added versatility.”

Heat pump dryers are available in side-by-side front load machines as well as a full capacity all-in-one washer and dryer that only needs 110V electrical.

LG provides appliance solutions no matter the size of the project including their LG WashCombo™ All-in-One that provides installation versatility and many benefits to the homeowners.

Users are able to run a complete wash and dry cycle in as fast as two hours, without having to transfer clothes. Fast and efficient, it saves time while using up to 60 percent less energy than a vented model and has built-in intelligence. Forget about endless sorting or toggling through cycles—built-in sensors use AI technology to detect fabric texture, soil level and load size, then automatically select the right wash/dry motions, temperatures and more for advanced fabric care, Hodge explains.

This technology also extends to water heaters. LG’s Inverter Heat Pump Water Heater, which was named a “Best of the International Builders Show (IBS)” finalist in the Best Energy Efficient Product category in 2025, uses inverter heat pump technology to minimize the need for supplemental electric resistance heating. Select 58- and 80-gallon models of this ENERGY STAR® certified solution are demand response ready and include water leakage detection sensors.

Connected Smart Home Solutions

In addition to innovations for individual appliances, LG continues to invest in their LG ThinQ® smart home platform to allow homeowners to monitor and manage usage, receive preventive alerts and more through the connected platform.

Almost every appliance we offer has LG ThinQ® capability – including water heaters, OLED televisions, HVAC systems, and kitchen and laundry appliances,” Hodge says. “LG ThinQ® can monitor your behavior and adjust appliances accordingly. For example, your refrigerator will know your peak usage time, so it can ramp up and down its motor according to your utilization. LG ThinQ® will automatically change the energy usage based on what it learns from you every day.”

LG ThinQ® when selected can send automated diagnostic alerts to your smartphone, notifying you of potential issues like temperature changes – helping you keep your smart LG appliances running smoothly. This information also allows LG service techs to be prepared ahead of service calls.

"With our continuous investment in innovation throughout our appliances, we provide streamlined solutions with connecting your select LG products for added value of peace of mind to the homeowner" Hodge says. “The convenience of smart technology is being able to turn on your oven from your car on your way home from the grocery store, and being able to turn on your laundry from your office so it’s done when your get home.”

LG ThinQ® also contributes to energy efficiency efforts because you can monitor how much energy each appliance is using.

For professional builders and contractors, the LG Pro Builder division provides a connected approach, with access to the array of LG products including appliances, water heaters and HVAC systems that can be installed to deliver additional value and convenience to homeowners.
