How Mohawk flooring grounds the VISION House Las Vegas in style and purpose.
At the cutting edge of sustainable design, the VISION House Las Vegas, a collaboration between Green Builder Media and Beazer Homes, proves that a high-performance home can be beautiful from the ground up—literally.
One of the unsung heroes of this smart, solar-powered show home is the flooring, provided by Mohawk, a company that has made major strides in both durability and environmental responsibility.
Beazer Homes' Justin Andersen highlighted the importance of material selection in delivering a home that’s as healthy and efficient as it is elegant. Mohawk’s flooring checked every box.
“We’re showcasing EverStrand carpet that is made out of recycled plastic bottles,” Andersen says. “The fibers are produced using Mohawk's proprietary Continuum process, which transforms recycled plastic into carpet fiber.” In a space where sustainability is central, using recycled materials isn't just a feel-good choice—it's a fundamental part of the VISION House’s commitment to low environmental impact.
The VISION House Las Vegas also features PureTech resilient flooring, which is 100% PVC-free and made from 70% total recycled content with an organic core comprised of 80% renewable, plant-based materials. PureTech is waterproof, durable, and scratch resistant, offering a WetProtect warranty and pet scratch protection warranty. “PureTech helps homeowners feel confident that their flooring will continue to look good regardless of how rigorous their daily activities are,” asserts Andersen.
But Mohawk’s products don’t stop at being eco-conscious. They also contribute to better indoor air quality. “Mohawk’s products help maintain good indoor air quality by not emitting VOCs and toxins into the air,” Andersen explains. This is critical in homes that are built tight for energy efficiency, where every material inside the walls either improve or deteriorate the indoor environment.
The design flexibility of Mohawk’s products also plays a key role in the look and feel of the home. Throughout the VISION House, the flooring ties rooms together seamlessly, creating an open, cohesive atmosphere that reflects how modern families live. “It allows you to give that openness without a break,” Andersen notes, referring to how the continuous flooring design enhances both flow and functionality.
Even years down the line, Mohawk’s commitment to sustainability will continue to make an impact. “Down the road in the future, several years—maybe a decade or more—somebody wants to redecorate or replace the flooring, it’s going to be recyclable,” Andersen states. “Which means that it doesn’t have the same environmental impact that conventional, non-recyclable products have.”
At VISION House Las Vegas, Mohawk is helping redefine what flooring can be: sustainable, stylish, recyclable, and resilient. It’s one more example of how the project blends beauty and environmental responsibility in every detail—from rooftop to foundation.
