Join us for "Reduce, Offset, Repeat", a Green Builder Media Next Generation Influencer event, to learn simple ways to reduce and offset your carbon footprint!
Chances are, you’ve come across those "Day in the Life" TikToks, giving a glimpse into someone’s everyday routine. But have you ever stopped to think about how much carbon is emitted from those daily activities?
Let’s go through my own “Day in the Life” to show just how important it is to think about your own carbon footprint—and where you can make changes!
6:30 a.m. – Wake up, shower, and get ready for the day. A quick breakfast pick-me-up: granola bar, yogurt, and fruit. Did you know? That hot shower and the energy it takes to prepare breakfast contribute to your daily carbon load.
7:00 a.m. – Time for a morning walk with the dogs around the neighborhood.
Walking instead of driving is a win for your health—and the planet!
8:00 to 12:00 p.m. – Open the laptop and dive into work. As a remote worker, no commute for me! Remote work can cut out a huge chunk of carbon emissions from daily travel.
12:00 p.m. – Quick drive to the local coffee shop for a bite to eat. 30-minute potty break for the pups! Even a short drive adds up—every gallon of gas burned emits about 20 pounds of carbon. Ouch!
1:00 to 5:00 p.m. – Wrapping up the workday, sticking close to home.
5:00 p.m. – Dinner time and some well-deserved relaxation. Watching TV or reading a book to unwind. Your home’s energy use, whether it’s cooking or streaming shows, can be a major carbon contributor.
7:00 p.m. – Round two of neighborhood walks with the dogs—fresh air for them and more carbon-free movement for me!
10:00 p.m. – Time for my nightly routine and bed.
