The VISION House Transcend, Green Builder Media’s latest VISION House project constructed by prefab home builder Dvele, has been meticulously designed for energy efficiency, demand side energy management optimization, and renewable energy production.
The home boasts a sophisticated, super efficient radiant heating and cooling system, appliances, lighting, and building envelope to reduce energy demand, as well as a cutting-edge energy management system.
The net-zero, all electric house is powered by JinkoSolar’s EAGLE Encore system which includes its EAGLE Continental solar panels, and EAGLE RS storage system, enabling the home not only to produce its own energy, but also to net meter (or feed energy back to the grid).
JinkoSolar is “excited to participate in Transcend to play our role in creating not only an advanced home but also a responsible solution for a future affected by population growth and climate change,” says Jeff Juger, deputy general manager at JinkoSolar US.
Prefab homes like Transcend are planned very carefully, so that all of the products and systems are integrated. For example, with JinkoSolar’s EAGLE Encore system, “rather than deal with a messy retrofit with holes drilled into the rooftop, Dvele can pre-install racks on the rooftop for the solar panels and set aside space for the energy storage system.
Knowing how much energy is needed in the home ahead of time has also allowed Dvele to determine the size of the solar and energy storage needed and fit it all into the home in the most aesthetically pleasing and seamless way,” Juger points out.
The Solar Specs
The VISION House Transcend showcases JinkoSolar’s EAGLE Encore system. The all-black EAGLE Continental panels create a sleek aesthetic, ideal for residential installations. Additionally, they are Fire Type 1 rated and certified to withstand humidity, rain, salt spray, wind, hail, and snowpack.
EAGLE Continental solar panels have half-cut Diamond cells with twin arrays, which increases shade tolerance. There’s also less current loss, so the module's power output is higher.
The EAGLE RS residential storage system helps homes utilize solar energy at night or when the sun isn’t shining. This helps to avoid pricey on-peak rates and reduce grid stress. “The EAGLE RS energy storage system is a 7.6kW / 26.2kWh DC-coupled system, which offers Transcend self-consumption, time-of-use, and backup power applications,” explains Juger.
The EAGLE Encore system is both advanced and integrated. “Many companies use an AC-coupled architecture for its energy storage, which means the home has two inverters: one dedicated to the solar system and one dedicated to the energy storage system. JinkoSolar’s unique system uses only one inverter, shared between the solar system and energy storage system,” asserts Juger.
While the products can be sold separately, the complete solution provides flexibility and allows Transcend to be net zero. And, a US monitoring app comes with the system, allowing the homeowner to follow along and observe usage and performance.
Walking the Walk
As a company, JinkSolar is dedicated to creating supply chain sustainability and considering the environment in decisions. JinkoSolar was the first solar manufacturer to join the RE100, pledging to power 100% of operations with renewables by 2025.
“On track to hit this objective, JinkoSolar’s EAGLE Encore system is contributing to decarbonization not only by virtue of the product category but also due to the responsible way in which they are manufactured. The system is sized appropriately and sufficiently efficient to allow Transcend to go net zero, despite everything being electrified in the house, and have enough juice to back up critical loads in the home during a power outage,” explains Juger.
As the first renewable energy producer to ship 100 gigawatts worldwide, JinkoSolar’s products are vetted by many of the world’s top labs, builders, and financial institutions. “The company is ready to support volume deployments of Transcend homes outfitted with the EAGLE Encore system,” concludes Juger.
