IAPMO Seeks UMC Legionella Task Group Members

IAPMO is accepting applications and seeking technical experts to participate in a task group to address Legionella exposure risk to the public posed by mechanical equipment.

Legionella

The scope of IAPMO’s Legionella Task Group is to address concerns pertaining to the control and intervention of Legionella associated with mechanical systems and equipment. This will include:

  • Verifying correlations between temperature, concentration limits, and Legionella growth potential.
  • Verifying remediation actions and water treatment plans.
  • Reviewing other factors for Legionella growth potential including, but not limited to, water sources, circulation rates, disinfection residual, and piping materials.
  • Identifying additional methods of chemical and non-chemical treatment methods.
  • Correlating with existing industry standards.

The task group recommendations will be forwarded to the Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC) Technical Committee for consideration in the development of the 2027 edition of the UMC.

Task group members will participate via conference call or web meeting, provide their perspective on the code, and assist in drafting recommendations for action by the UMC Technical Committee’s consideration. Applicants are not required to be members of the UMC Technical Committee.

The deadline to apply is March 1.

Anybody interested in serving on the task group may complete the application online. For more information, contact Taylor Duran at (909) 218-8126.
