Heat pumps can extract heat from the air outside, even in cold temperatures. This capability allows them to warm a home more efficiently than their conventional counterparts. Modern heat pump technologies have overcome extreme temperature challenges, and some models can now effectively provide heat in temperatures as low as -15 degrees Fahrenheit.

“It’s not necessarily going to provide the same level of heating as a furnace will when it gets extremely cold, but on your standard winter days, it is going to provide adequate heating to your house,” Hemmick explains.
