When Green Builder Media and Alair Asheville | Red Tree, a member of Alair Homes, North America’s largest custom home building and renovation franchise, partnered to plan VISION House Asheville, wellness architecture was identified as a core component of the plan.
The custom-designed home, rising in the Beaverdam community in North Asheville, will demonstrate the future of homebuilding with climate responsive architecture, innovative products and systems, and high-performance building science.
VISION House Asheville is designed around three pillars: wellness architecture, resilience and Value Per Square Foot™, a metric that provides insights for home buyers and owners about generational sustainability. Value per square foot integrates sustainability, resource efficiency, wellness, comfort, equity and investment into measuring what a home is worth, a concept generated by trends identified by Green Builder Media’s COGNITION Smart Data™ surveys.
An important element of value per square foot and wellness architecture is indoor-outdoor living. Recently, COGNITION Smart Data surveys found that indoor-outdoor living is among the top four most important features that homeowners appreciate in their daily lives.
At VISION House Asheville, outdoor heating solutions from Bromic will enhance the usability and functionality of outdoor spaces far beyond traditional seasons.
“At Bromic, we were really drawn to the wellness framework behind VISION House Asheville and the way the project positions the home as an ecosystem for healthier living,” says Megan Spies, brand marketing director at Bromic Heating. “Our research shows that consumers want to spend more time outside and get more enjoyment from their homes, and we believe outdoor spaces should be designed to make that possible. Our heating solutions help extend outdoor moments, allowing people to enjoy beautifully designed outdoor spaces well beyond the warmer months.”
Bromic’s goal is to increase the amount of time residents and their guests can enjoy their outdoor spaces.
“People often make significant investments in beautiful outdoor living spaces without considering how temperature will affect how often those spaces can actually be used,” Spies says. “Integrating heating from the beginning can dramatically increase the amount of time a homeowner can spend outdoors, ultimately helping them get more value from that investment.”
Several Bromic heating solutions will be featured throughout VISION House Ashville, showcasing different approaches to outdoor heating, including:
The Eclipse Pendant combines heat and light in a sculptural design
The Eclipse Freestanding provides a flexible solution for outdoor living areas.
The new Tungsten heater demonstrates how integrated heating can complement a range of architectural and design styles.
“Together, the three applications demonstrate how outdoor heating can be thoughtfully integrated into different areas of the home,” Spies says.
Sustainability is also about longevity.
“Bromic products are designed to be a lasting investment rather than a temporary solution,” Spies says. “Outdoor heating is often thought of as something that can simply be moved in and out as needed. By integrating a high-quality heating system into the design of an outdoor space, homeowners can create a more permanent solution that supports the space for years to come.”
“We believe the products within that space should be built to last and help extend the useful life—and enjoyment—of the space itself,” Spies says.
For anyone just beginning to think about an outdoor space and wondering how heating can be incorporated, Bromic offers a complimentary heat plan.
“Our team can help determine the right heating approach for a project and develop a free plan based on the space and its specific needs,” Spies says. “The service is available to both our trade partners and consumers, making it an easy way to start exploring how integrated outdoor heating can become part of the design from the beginning.”
We encourage builders, designers and homeowners to take advantage of the service and explore the many ways Bromic can help create outdoor spaces that can be enjoyed for more of the year, Spies added.
