Sustainable Home Finishes That Turn Heads

From carbon-neutral tile to PVC-free, densified-wood planks, see the finishes that make real-world sustainability practical and elegant at VISION House Austin.

In this video, architect Peter Pfeiffer talks about how the AHF products balance performance, health, and durability at VISION House Austin. As he frames it, the project demonstrates “affordable and real sustainability, utilizing climate responsiveness by design.” Watch for a quick walk-through of why these products were chosen and how they contribute to a healthier, longer-lasting home.

First up is Crossville’s Native Metal collection. It’s a porcelain tile with a natural metal look and through-body color. That means “even if it’s chipped, you’re not going to notice it,” and its precise manufacturing helps avoid inconsistent grout joints. Pfeiffer also notes the carbon-neutral manufacturing process and the avoidance of harmful additives, delivering toughness without tradeoffs. “It’s a wonderful product that we have been specifying for years,” Pfeiffer says.

Additionally, the Hartco PVC-free Dogwood Pro engineered wood was used for the flooring in the home. Using densified-wood technology, it’s “six times more dent-resistant and four times more scratch-resistant than typical hardwood flooring,” yet light, waterproof, and built to handle everyday life. With antimicrobial additives, the flooring “stays cleaner and contributes to the health and indoor air quality of this home.”
