The highly anticipated agenda for the 8th edition of the Next Generation Water Summit (NGWS) is now available. The NGWS sessions will take place June 5 – 6, 2025 in Santa Fe, NM at the New Mexico state capitol building, known as “The Roundhouse.”

The annual event will once again be offered in a hybrid format, with both in-person and virtual attendance options. The 2025 theme is “Increasing Resilience in an Unpredictable Climate.”

The NGWS focuses on both regional and national water challenges. There will be two national tracks on June 5 and 6, and a New Mexico-focused track joins the agenda on Friday, June 6. In total, there are 26 sessions on the schedule, including a first for the NGWS: a two-part, fully interactive session.

Session topics will include:

  • IAPMO’s New Commercial Water Auditor Program
  • EPA Pilot Study: Saving Water, Saving Energy, Saving Money
  • Graywater: Barriers to Growth and a Path Forward
  • Santa Fe’s Updated Residential Green Building Code
  • Conservation Programs: Voluntary to Mandatory
  • Funding in a Time of Uncertainty

Mary Ann Dickinson, Director of Land and Water Policy at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, will deliver the keynote on Friday, June 6. She will provide an honest assessment of the industry and what she would do to improve it, saying, “The Next Generation Water Summit is a wonderful conference that inspires and promotes innovative thinking on water: how do we sustainably manage our water resources and deal with the changes coming our way in the future?”

"I am extremely excited about participating in the Graywater workshop planned as part of this year's Next Generation Water Summit", says Laura Allen. "Graywater is part of the solution to our growing water shortage, so focusing on removing barriers of adoption is critical," she concludes.

Laura is the co-founder of Greywater Action and author of “Greywater, Green Landscape: How to Install Simple Water-Saving Irrigation Systems in Your Yard” and “The Water-Wise Home: How to Conserve, Capture, and Reuse Water in Your Home and Landscape”. Laura will be presenting a general session during the NGWS that summarizes the outcome from this pre-NGWS event.

There will be a plethora of free, in-person events for local and out-of-state guests to attend. There will be a training class preceding the Summit; an awards and networking event on Thursday, June 5 at the Governor’s Mansion; and community events following the Summit on Saturday, June 7.

The Water Efficiency Rating Score (WERS) Multifamily training is open to existing water auditors and WERS Verifiers. Taking place on June 3 and 4, this course is ideal for those who would like to conduct WERS verifications on multifamily projects, or assist in the decision-making process alongside builders, developers and architects.

This training is FREE with a paid, on-site Summit registration and is offered in conjunction with Triconic, the NGWS’ Education Partner.

Post-event workshops will take place on June 7 and include:

  • The City of Santa Fe’s Water Conservation Office, with a host of tables from local vendors and the ability to meet with local water conservation staff
  • How to Maintain a Drip System at Firebird with Kelley Nace
  • How to Select the Right Tree in a Changing Climate

With all the events surrounding the NGWS, it is nearly a week-long focus on water. All registrants (in-person or virtual) will be able to attend live and on-demand sessions, and network with fellow attendees from around the world.
