Builder Ron Jones walks through the interior finish choices on his high-elevation project, from zero-maintenance solid-core doors with leather and copper inlays and one-hour fire ratings to matching brushed-nickel lock sets and lever hardware. He also spotlights Fresco Harmony, a tinted gypsum drywall compound used on the 26-foot atrium walls and specialty rooms as a lower-cost alternative to Venetian plaster.

Ron Jones: You can't really talk about residential architecture without talking about the fit and finish of the trim and the doors. And so we were introduced to true style, and they have this incredible variety. This catalog of of products that make for so many design choices. And we wanted to have all solid core doors and that were absolutely zero maintenance that we could install in a variety of different design genres.

Ron Jones: And they supplied beautifully detailed product with it, everything from leather to copper inlays, very advanced detailing in the surfaces, solid. You get that feel that wow, these these are substantial. And it was important for us in some of the applications in the duet in particular, to have a one hour fire rating. And we were able to accomplish that with these gorgeous doors that didn't look industrial.

Ron Jones: And so that was a very important component. And of course, we paired that with incredible slave hardware. And so all of our all of our lock sets, all of our touchpads, all of our lever handles, all of those things match and they're done in a beautiful brushed nickel. And, and they just gleam and they operate so beautifully. And they give you that really solid feel of security.

Ron Jones: So the doors, the hardware, the trim, the finish, all of those things combined to sort of wrap a bow around that aspect of the construction. And then there's one other special product that I'd like to mention. It was invented by a young man in New Mexico who was very skilled in drywall finishing. And he asked himself the question, why do we just do these excellent drywall finished walls so they can be painted?

Ron Jones: Why couldn't they have integrated color? Why couldn't they have a character of their own? So he worked for a long time and developed a system that is based on a very simple coloration of gypsum drywall compound, and it's called fresco harmony. We have the atrium itself all the way to the 26ft height of the ceilings, and we have some specialty walls in the bedrooms and in the sitting rooms that are done in fresco harmony in two different finishes.

Ron Jones: One is in a pearl finish and the other one in a slate finish, and they give you the feel, and in some cases, even a little bit of the marbling that you would expect from Venetian plaster, but at a fraction of the cost. And so I'm hoping that we can help them to expand their market in such a way that it'll just become the go to product, because it's not only beautiful, it's easy to maintain, it's easy to touch up, but it takes your it takes your interior surfaces to the next level, and it does it at a price point and at a time expenditure that's acceptable.
