Green Builder Media CEO Sara Gutterman speaks with Carrier's Braden Cook and Christine Rasche about IntelliSense technology, which gives dealers equipment-specific diagnostics before a service call, and Carrier's heat pump and dual fuel offerings for VISION House Sussex.

Sara Gutterman: It sounds like carrier has been very busy innovating high performance HVAC systems. So tell me a little bit more about these innovations.

Braden Cook: In addition to relaunching entire product lines for the 2023 Dewey regulatory changes, Care recently announced many major industry leading product innovations, which include IntelliSense technology, near field communication capabilities, Vertex technology, and even more. We took the 2023 industry changes as a chance to redesign our products from the inside out by reducing the weight of our indoor coils and redesign our indoor coils, enhancing communication capabilities for convenience, customizable comfort, and solutions that increase energy efficiency.

Braden Cook: Now, redesigning that indoor coil and taking that system approach also allowed us to have more efficient outdoor units that were in a similar size, what we had before.

Sara Gutterman: I've heard a lot about the intellisense technology. Can you please tell us a little bit more about that?

Christine Rasche: Our dealers already lead the industry with their knowledge on the equipment they're selling best in class equipment and intellisense isn't able to us to deliver equipment specific information to our dealers through a use of our digital tools. It enables them to deliver to the homeowners the ability to show up with the right technician, the right part. The first time we're leading the industry on the performance series, and that our dealers are not inferring information.

Christine Rasche: They're seeing information about the equipment itself. So they're able to see something called superheat and sub cooling temperatures and pressures, so that they're looking at what's happening inside the equipment before they ever show up to the homeowner store.

Sara Gutterman: Can you talk about how your offerings and particularly these advanced innovations are addressing net zero electrification and helping them?

Braden Cook: You know, we make sure to keep the environment in mind every time we design a new product or improve an existing one. We set rigorous environmental performance targets and apply the newest innovations to create the most sustainable solutions. We offer a very comprehensive collection of electric product offerings, which are heat pumps. We have award winning heat pumps. We have ductless systems or all electric solutions can help replace natural gas or propane in many installations and climates.

Braden Cook: And then we also offer a wide range of dual fuel systems, where a dual fuel system pairs a heat pump with a gas furnace, which provides the optimal balance of decarbonization, operating cost and comfort. You know, in that type of application, the heat pump will provide heating on the cool days where he pump is more efficient and it'll switch over to the gas furnace on the cold days where the heat pump wouldn't be as efficient.

Braden Cook: In the past, there's been a lot of talk about electrification and the shift towards heat pump, but we really hadn't seen much of a trend yet. Now, over the last year, we've really started to see that shift happen and moving forward, we think it's just going to accelerate as the mix shifts from air conditioners to heat pumps.

Christine Rasche: People are more aware than ever of what's happening inside their home and through our healthy, home targeted suite of products, we're able to help them clean the air, be more comfortable in their air, and really find the solution that best fits them. Sara Gutterman: So we're very proud to showcase carrier systems in our Vision Health Sussex, which is our latest vision House demonstration project with Tim O'Brien homes in the greater Milwaukee area. Can you tell me a little bit about the products that we will be showcasing in that project, and why they are a good fit for our theme for that project, which is sustainable and attainable.

Braden Cook: We're going to have a few different products in the home. The first one will be a single zone ductless system, and that's going to be in the garage. So, you know, in a lot of cases, a ductless system is a really good application for add on areas where it might be difficult to heat or cool a space, such as above a garage or a new addition where there is an existing ductwork ran to that space, or in a garage where you kind of want to better utilize that space throughout the different seasons and spend more time in that space.

Braden Cook: So that's going to be our performance series dockless heat pump that's going to be paired with a performance series high wall unit on the inside. Now there's no Docker part for this type of product and it's 100% electric. So that's going to help reduce the carbon emissions as far as the the rest of the home. So for the full space we will have a ducted system.

Braden Cook: We're going to be showcasing a dual fuel hybrid heat system that's going to have a performance series 96 gas furnace. And it'll be paired with a performance series 17 heat pump carriers. Performance 96 condensing gas first offers smart electronics and two stage capabilities. This particular model has a variable speed blower motor and will run in low stage up to 90% of the time.

Braden Cook: So the longer you're running in that low spit stage, it's going to give you better energy efficiency, better temperature control, and increased comfort. The Performance Series heat pump offers the perfect balance between budget limits that homeowners may have today, and the desired for long term energy savings. The 25 to 7 is a specific model, and it boosts cooling efficiencies up to 17 here.

We also want to achieve carbon and water neutrality in our operations and deliver zero waste of landfill at our manufacturing locations, all by 2030. Carriers Indianapolis residential gas plant, which is the largest in the world that trees achieve zero waste of landfill certification, and December of 2021.
