Green Builder Media CEO Sara Gutterman talks with Beazer Las Vegas operations director Justin Anderson and Broan fresh air systems product manager Travis Rasch about the energy recovery ventilator and quiet, low-energy exhaust fans installed in a Las Vegas project. They explain how heat recovery ventilation supplies fresh, filtered air to every buyer at almost no added energy cost.
00:00:01:23 - 00:00:24:15
Sara Gutterman: Hi, I'm Sara Diamond, CEO of Green Builder Media, and I'm here with Justin Anderson, the director of operations for Bizarre Las Vegas. And also here with us is Travis Rasch, the group product manager for Fresh Air Systems at Brown. First, Travis, why don't you tell us about the brown products that were used in the vision of Las Vegas?
00:00:24:18 - 00:00:46:05
Travis Rasch: Yeah. So working with Justin and the team with Beazer, we have both our ventilation products or exhaust innovation for the different bathrooms, as well as our ERV or energy recovery ventilator, which is the fresh air system, ultimately providing that fresh filtered air, to the, energy efficient homes, adjusting the team or building a better.
00:00:46:08 - 00:00:55:08
Sara Gutterman: Thanks, Travis and Justin, how did these products contribute to the home's energy efficiency and the savings for homeowners?
00:00:55:10 - 00:01:30:26
Justin Anderson: Well, the the bat fans, they have all series that we used, are lower noise and use less energy. So kind of as a, as one of the gains that the homeowner gets, they get a quieter fan that works super efficient. The RVs where they save all the money, though, that's the real energy saver. Just having the ability to take air from outside, exchange it with air that we've already conditioned inside the house and then, you know, use it to supply fresh, filtered, clean air, for, you know, virtually no dollars.
00:01:31:04 - 00:01:44:21
Justin Anderson: So we're just we're letting science happen, and taking that that energy that already exists in the air inside the house and, and bringing it back to the Hvac system. That's where that's where the real energy savings happen.
00:01:44:24 - 00:01:49:06
Sara Gutterman: Why does Beazer feel like it's important to deliver this benefit to your home buyers?
00:01:49:09 - 00:02:10:28
Justin Anderson: We have we all breathe, we all breathe and all the time. And the cleaner the air that we can have inside our house, the better the the quality of life that you can have that comfort feeling while you're inside your house, making those life memories, knowing that, you know, Beazer provides a good, clean, indoor, comfortable air for everybody, every buyer.
00:02:10:28 - 00:02:19:09
Justin Anderson: It doesn't matter. Our customers don't get a choice. We provide that to them, as part of that, as part of the build. So it's pretty exciting to have.
00:02:19:09 - 00:02:26:27
Sara Gutterman: Is are there other benefits or features to the products that were utilized in the project, thinking that you'd like to spotlight?
00:02:27:00 - 00:02:45:22
Travis Rasch: Yeah. So with the Aries in particular, they come with what we call our virtual technology. And so when that installing contractor, does that initial commissioning, what our products do is kind of take over and make sure that the quality of work that that contractor did at the very beginning is maintained throughout the life of the product.
00:02:45:22 - 00:03:09:17
Travis Rasch: So ultimately performing that performance and sustainability just for the team are looking for, that's a critical component, as relates to the RV that's been installed and as Justin highlighted, with the evolve exhaust fans in that spot, ventilation again, them being very quiet energy efficient. Ultium provides, those, needed exhaust needs within those bathrooms, for the home itself.
00:03:09:19 - 00:03:16:08
Sara Gutterman: What sustainability trends are you tracking in the ventilation and indoor air quality sector?
00:03:16:10 - 00:03:39:04
Travis Rasch: Yeah, I think it really comes back to, again, the energy efficiency piece, just like John just mentioned, the homeowner experiencing that savings. So the need for higher performing products, both from a recovery efficiency standpoint, a filtration standpoint and ultimately energy efficiency. So how much energy are we using to to deliver that fresh, filtered, tempered air to their homes just in.
00:03:39:04 - 00:03:41:15
Sara Gutterman: How would you answer that question?
00:03:41:17 - 00:04:03:05
Justin Anderson: We we are going to continue forward with the RVs. I know there's, some uncertainty with some of the programs that are around right now. We do still intend to provide clean, fresh, breathable air to all of our customers. So just working with, working with the Browne team, we had a meeting, a couple of weeks ago.
00:04:03:05 - 00:04:25:13
Justin Anderson: They had a couple of their sales reps in our office. We're talking about the future of RVs. Where kind of technology is leading that? We don't have any intention of moving away from that. The indoor air quality is important for everyone, and that's, you know, one of the one of the things I'd say is the least we can do is provide good ventilation and fresh air for our customers.
00:04:25:16 - 00:04:26:20
Justin Anderson: It just makes good sense.
