Peter Pfeiffer: Welcome to Green Builder Media's Vision Home Austin, where we're demonstrating affordable and real sustainability, utilizing, among other things, climate responsiveness by design. The products in this house were obviously important, from the sustainability, energy efficiency and health perspective. I want to talk about two of them. One of them is Crossville Ceramics, and with the tiles that are used in this house, which it's, recognized brand throughout the United States for many years.

Peter Pfeiffer: This is their natural metal look, which is particularly dense, and the color is through and through. So even if it's chipped, you're not going to notice it. It's a very level and straight and manufactured a very strict standard tile so that you don't have to worry about inconsistent grout joints. It's a wonderful product that we have been specifying for years.

I like the way this plant has been able to produce its products using nontoxic chemicals and nontoxic additives to achieve the durability and the reliability. Peter Pfeiffer: Let's talk about the Dogwood Pro flooring in this house. It employs a densify wood technology that essentially makes it six times more dent resistant. Four times more scratch resistant than typical hardwood flooring, yet is quite light. So we've got this waterproof flooring that can hold up to kids throwing things around on the floor, and dogs and cats chasing them, yet still maintain its beauty.

Peter Pfeiffer: We like using engineered wood products like this because you get so much more value for your money and so much less maintenance from the carbon neutral or from the low carbon living perspective. I also like the way the manufacturing occurs. They upcycle their products so their waste products get sold to other manufacturers for beneficial reuse. They're truly an integrated manufacturing process where they build a fantastic product and they minimize the waste.

It's good looking, scratch resistant, and contributes to better indoor air quality and health. Another attribute of this flooring is its clean ability, or clean tivity with anti-microbial additives that make it so that it stays cleaner and contributes to the health and indoor air quality of this home.
