There's so much to learn about installing a solar photovoltaic system on your home--and how to pay for it. This free guide helps you to navigate through the whole process.

LEARNING ALL OF THE OPTIONS FOR PAYING FOR A SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM for your can be confusing. Should you pay for your system by using cash or signing a lease, a loan or a power purchase agreement? To help you understand what these complex terminologies mean, and their fine print, Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA) has released a free guide, ‘A Homeowner’s Guide to Solar Financing: Leases, Loans and PPAs.’

The guide explains the advantages and disadvantages of leases, loans, and power purchase agreements and compares them to buying with cash. Prepared through the New England Solar Cost-Reduction Partnership, a project under the U.S. Department of Energy SunShot Initiative Rooftop Solar Challenge II, the guide also provides a glossary of terms and a list of questions that homeowners should ask before proceeding.

“There are lots of financing options for homeowners who might not be able to afford the upfront cash outlay to buy a system outright,” said Nate Hausman, CESA Project Manager and author of the solar guidebook in the press release. “However, not every financing option is right for everyone. This guide is designed to help.”

With better education and lower technology costs, more of the public has considered installing a solar energy system. As a result, there are more vendors in the marketplace, making the decisions much more complicated. The guide helps to make this decision easier. “CESA is working with states to provide consumer-friendly information that can help speed the widespread adoption of solar energy,” remarked CESA Executive Director Warren Leon.
