System glitches alter ICC code development path for 2016.

"As building code development activities begin to build steam in 2016, the ICC finds itself in a rather unique situation," notes Julie Ruth, in her Code Arena column. "Group A proposals would have been concluded in 2015, Group B proposals would be in development now and Group C proposals would not begin until 2017. Instead of having just published new editions of the International Codes and continuing normal development of Group A, Group B and Group C codes, the ICC finds itself involved in multiple code development activities at the same time."

Congress Extends Energy-Efficient Tax Credit

Tax credit for new and existing homes runs through 2016.

Good news for green home builders. The 45L federal tax credit providing a $2,000 tax credit to builders for building and selling high energy performing homes has been extended.

As part of an omnibus tax incentive and spending bill, Congress has extended the new energy efficient credit for 2015 and 2016.

Green Home Valuation Gets a Boost

Will green homes finally get the appraisal values they deserve?

The Appraisal Institute and the Building Codes Assistance Project just released guidance related to valuation of green and energy-efficient homes.

“It’s a document that is long past due,” says Cati O’Keefe, Green Builder Media’s editorial director. “Home buyers have consistently demonstrated an interest in green homes because they offer lower utility bills, higher indoor air quality and comfort, and because it is the right thing to do for the planet. Now that they know their investment will also be valued accurately, it will make choosing green even easier.”
