Our latest survey of building professionals shows that several green building strategies have gone mainstream, but barriers to widespread adoption still remain.
Interviews by Caitlin Kelly
This year’s survey shows one thing very clearly: professionals get energy efficiency, and they know how to implement strategies to reduce a home’s energy demand. Pros are also educating themselves (and their clients) so they can implement a more comprehensive sustainability agenda, one that considers water conservation, indoor air quality and overall carbon footprint, too. But how do they approach these issues with homeowners? The interviews with the four professionals highlight different approaches to setting the green agenda. Finally, we’ve included a special section of questions devoted to “connected” technology and the Internet of Things. As was the case with green building 10 years ago, barriers of cost and comprehension are limiting widespread adoption. We hope all of the features in this issue will help educate our readers.
