Submissions are now open for Green Builder Media’s 2026 Eco Leaders program, and this year, we’re raising the bar.

We’re inviting builders, developers, manufacturers, and industry partners to step forward and demonstrate how they are delivering real, measurable value beyond first cost. Specifically, we’re looking for projects and products that embody Value Per Square Foot a new housing metric that expands how we define and quantify value across seven critical pillars:

    • Energy—performance and renewables
    • Resilience—climate-responsive design, durable materials, and energy independence
    • Health and wellness—indoor air quality, non-toxic materials, acoustics, daylighting, biophilic design, comfort, and productivity
    • Water—quality, conservation, and efficiency
    • Decarbonization—embodied and operational carbon, lifecycle impact, environmental stewardship
    • Equity and investment—long-term affordability, wealth-building, avoided risk costs, enhanced resale value
    • Community—social cohesion, access to nature, mobility, walkability, and shared amenities

If you’re building, designing, or manufacturing with this level of intention, this is your opportunity to showcase both your philosophy and your proof points through case studies, measurable outcomes, and real-world impact, and position your company at the forefront of industry transformation.

From Cost-Based Thinking to Value-Based Outcomes

The building industry is at an inflection point. The old model—optimize for first cost, ignore long-term consequences—is breaking down. It’s fueling the affordability crisis, increasing risk exposure, and eroding trust.
