Building Smarter Homes with Connected Technology

Resideo Technologies is helping to shape the future of connected living, developing smart home systems that improve comfort, safety, and energy efficiency while giving homeowners greater control over how their homes operate.

In a recent interview with JD Wix, Director of Sales for Residential New Construction at Resideo Technologies, the conversation explored how connected-home technology is transforming how builders provide comfort, efficiency, and security to homeowners.

Resideo, known for brands like Honeywell Home and First Alert, develops smart home products designed to create an integrated living experience. From smart thermostats to connected smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and video doorbells, these technologies allow homeowners to monitor and manage key systems from anywhere.

“I can connect to that thermostat wherever I’m at. I can see what’s going on with my home, make sure the people in the home are comfortable, and get the energy usage from that as well,” Wix said.

He also emphasized that connected living is about more than a single device.

“We don’t just do thermostats—we do connected smoke and CO detectors, video products, video doorbells, etc., so it allows that whole ecosystem to be connected from that app,” he explained.

The discussion highlighted how builders are incorporating smart technology into new homes. Wix described how companies like Beazer Homes are working with Resideo to design premium technology packages that appeal to today’s buyers.

“Houses are expensive today. Energy is expensive. So everybody wants a connected thermostat that makes things more affordable but also makes the house more livable.”

Looking ahead, Wix hinted at upcoming developments, including a new app designed to bring multiple smart home products together into a single platform.
