As increasing numbers of induction cookers enter the market, consumers are beginning to look for ranges that offer more than just the benefits of induction cooking. When washing clothes, even something as simple as the water temperature can dramatically affect not just household energy costs and carbon emissions, but clothing longevity itself. Cold-water washing is friendlier to your clothes and the environment, but washing in warm water has traditionally been more effective at treating stains. Now, the Electrolux Front Load Laundry Pair, also known as the 700 series, aims to change that by providing a cold-water wash that doesn’t sacrifice cleaning performance for eco-friendliness.

Unlike most other washers, the 700 series displays its preference for cold water by listing it first on the temperature settings. It even defaults to cold water if no specifications for the wash are set. The environmental impact of different wash cycles are conveyed to users via a new care meter, which charts the sustainability of each option with a readout of up to three leaves.

Alternatively, if some clothes just need a little “freshening up,” the 700 series includes a specialized, 15-minute “Wear it Again” cycle, which uses steam and tumbling to remove pet hair and reduce odors and wrinkles, all without the direct use of the washer. Ironically, most heat pumps aren’t designed to perform in especially cold climates. Bosch is addressing this with its IDS Ultra Cold Climate Heat Pump, the first of its kind from the brand.

Making use of an environmentally friendly A2L refrigerant, R-454B, and boasting demand response capability to better combat periods of extreme climate and temperature impact, the IDS Ultra is capable of operating at 100 percent heating capacity at outdoor temperatures as low as 5 degrees Fahrenheit (2.1 COP), and will continue to operate at reduced capacity down to minus 13 degrees F. Acquiring a luxurious natural slate or wood shake roofing style comes with excessive waste, a higher cost for premium materials, and limited longevity. Manufacturer Euroshield offers an alternative with its recycled roofing product, Euroshield, 70 percent of which is made from durable, recycled tires. Overall,  95 percent of the roofing is recycled.

Roughly 250 to 1,000 rubber tires are used to produce a Euroshield roof for an average-sized home, and the scrap generated during the installation process can be collected and recycled again—virtually eliminating environmentally harmful waste. As of the end of 2024, more than 3.5 million trees have been diverted from landfills.
