Colby Swanson is a serial entrepreneur who is determined to help the residential industry build smarter, faster and more equitably for everyone. He started as a carpenter, graduated to a building scientist, switched to a corporate strategist, and now is an innovator and scout helping shape the future. His 360 degree understanding of the construction industry stems from swinging a hammer in the field to delivering strategies in the boardroom.
Colby authored long-term construction strategies for BASF and led many cross-divisional business development endeavors. He also launched a unique Employee Benefit Program - similar to a healthcare program, but for the employees’ homes. This program spurred nearly a thousand home improvement actions that directly reduced the company’s carbon footprint.
As a Director of Building Performance at Advanced Energy, he led a team that consulted with builders, contractors, product manufacturers, and utilities and government agencies on how to build better communities. His team developed a new educational platform helping homebuilders better manage their construction risk with building science.
Colby co-founded and grew an energy rating company that grew to be one of the largest providers of energy efficiency services to homebuilders in the country. He personally has conducted over 4,000 duct blasters and blower door tests, helped scale the ENERGY STAR for Homes program nationally, and has performed hundreds of building forensics investigations. Additionally, his experience as a framer/builder has given him the opportunity to train thousands of builders and contractors.
The culmination of Colby’s experience has led him to the innovation space. He is currently a co-founder and partner at Momentum Innovation Group, a construction consulting firm helping clients accelerate innovation. He has a BS in Biochemistry from Arizona State University.
