Sam Hagerman is co-founder and co-owner of Hammer & Hand, a Portland and Seattle-based construction company dedicated to inciting evolution in building through service, craft, and science.  Founded in 1995, his firm specializes in high performance building in the commercial and residential realms, with projects like Pumpkin Ridge Passive House, recent recipient of US Department of Energy’s Housing Innovation Award.  Sam is an active member of the US building science community, both through his leadership of the national Passive House movement (he served as inaugural president of Passive House Alliance US) and through his high performance building praxis at Hammer & Hand.  The firm’s practical application of building science theory has enabled Sam and his team to build a storehouse of high performance building details and processes for the Pacific Northwest climate that ensure the construction of durable, comfortable, energy-efficient buildings.
